What does your space say about you?

Hiiii 👋🏾

Before we jump in, I want to take a moment to welcome all the new faces in the community!

I’m glad you’ve joined us. Here’s a quick rundown of how we roll over here: every other Sunday, we dive into a little self-exploration with a lesson, a few reflective questions, and a dare for you to try.

This is about taking a step back and exploring different parts of yourself—nothing too heavy, but definitely thought-provoking.

So grab that cozy beverage (you already know I have coffee), and let’s get into today’s exploration.

As always I have a lesson, 3 questions and a dare for you!

[A LESSON]

Have you ever thought about how your environment reflects who you are?

It’s a concept I’ve gotten more attuned to this year living as a digital nomad and bouncing between Airbnbs and various places.

Some spaces I felt at home in right away, and others? …

Not so much

But it’s not just the aesthetic or the furniture. It’s the vibe—the energy those spaces held.

There's a concept called environmental psychology, which studies the impact our surroundings have on our emotions, behaviour, and well-being.

It suggests that our environment doesn’t just shape how we feel in a moment; it also influences how we see ourselves and the world. Conscious or not, we tend to shape our spaces based on our internal needs, values, and even hidden desires.

Which makes sense.

In a past life, before building SELFHOOD, I spent a decade as a brand strategist. I lived and breathed the idea that everything we choose—from the logo on a company’s letterhead to the chair in your living room—sends a message. It communicates who you are, or who you want to be.

Whether it’s intentional or not, what you buy, how you organize it, and the colours you choose tell a story about who you are.

So the big question is - what are you communicating?

Take a moment to think about the spaces you spend the most time in.

Your home, your office, or even your favourite coffee shop. What do they say about you? What objects, colours, or arrangements are you drawn to? Do they align with how you see yourself or do they contradict that vision?

What you surround yourself with speaks volumes about how you see your own identity and the life you’re trying to create. Be intentional about it.

[3 QUESTIONS ]

  1. How do you express your personality through the items you choose to buy? Whether it’s furniture, décor, or personal items—what do your purchases say about you?

E.g. You buy eclectic, second-hand furniture because you love the charm of mismatched pieces—it shows your creative and resourceful side.

  2. Think of a space you love—what about it feels like home to you? Is it the colours, the layout, or the items you’ve chosen to fill it with? How do they reflect your personality?

E.g. - Your living room feels like home because of the cozy beige couch, the stack of books on the coffee table, and the framed travel photos on the walls. It reflects your love for comfort, stories, and nostalgia.

  3. In contrast, is there a space in your life that feels uncomfortable or misaligned with who you are? What would you change about it to make it feel more like you?

E.g. If your bedroom feels bland with its plain white walls and minimal furniture. Adding earthy tones, soft textures, and a gallery wall of art could make it cozier and more aligned with your warm, grounded personality.

[A DARE]

Okay, I dare you…

To take a good look at your environment this week. Whether it’s your home, your workspace, or somewhere else you frequent. Ask yourself what it says about you.

Is it broadcasting the version of yourself you want to be? If not, what’s one thing you can do to shift the vibe? Maybe it’s swapping out an item, changing the layout, or even adding something meaningful that reflects who you are right now.

We often underestimate the power of our surroundings, but the right environment can be a game-changer when it comes to aligning who we are with how we live. So, let’s get intentional about it.
