What don't you want to change?

A different approach to resolutions

Surprise!

It’s Sunday!

I know we’re in that weird time of year where all the days blur into a cozy haze of food, films, and general what-day-is-it vibes, so I’ll keep today’s email short and sweet.

We’re just days away from a shiny new year, and if your inbox is anything like mine, it’s filled with chatter about New Year’s resolutions—what to start, change, or leave behind.

So, to be different (but also cause it’s important), today we’re focusing on the parts of you that you don’t want to change. Let’s talk about the things worth keeping in your life as we step into 2025?

You know what I’m about to say… find that cozy spot, grab a handful of Christmas chocolates, and let’s dive into this week’s Sunday self-exploration.

As always I have a lesson, 2 questions and a dare for you.

[A LESSON]

There’s a psychological concept called self-continuity. It’s the idea that feeling connected to who you’ve been in the past helps you stay grounded and feel more satisfied in the present.

When you’re constantly uprooting—changing everything about yourself or constantly chasing the “new you”—you risk losing sight of the foundation you’ve already built.

That foundation made up of the habits, values, and little rituals you cherish, gives you stability and a sense of identity.

Think of it like a tree: growth is essential, but so are the roots. If we spend all our time focused on sprouting new branches and never tend to our roots, the tree becomes fragile. And the same goes for us.

Honouring the things you like about yourself—the parts that already make you feel good, proud, or connected—reinforces your sense of who you are. It builds confidence and momentum. And the best part? By keeping those roots intact, you’ll have a stronger base to support the changes and growth you do want to make.

So yes, evolve, grow, and dream big for the new year. But don’t forget to honour what’s already working for you. Because sometimes, the key to becoming your best self is remembering who you already are.

[2 QUESTIONS ]

  1. What are you proud of about yourself from this past year?

  2. What do you want to keep doing, being, or embodying in 2025?

[A DARE]

I dare you to make a list of 3-5 things you want to carry forward into 2025.

Maybe it’s:

  • Your commitment to Sunday yoga.

  • The way you always text friends on their birthdays.

  • Your habit of reading & reflecting on these emails

  • Your green thumb 🪴

Then, take it one step further: pick one of those things and do it today. Lean into the parts of you that you already love.

[A(another) quick QUESTION]

The human behind the screen

Would you be down for an IRL SELFHOOD session next month in Toronto?

After a wonderful holiday break with family in Canada, we’ll be kicking off 2025 with our first month spent in Toronto.

And I thought….. maybe we spend the last Sunday of January, exploring together - in person?

I’ve already got a few ideas, but before making anything official, I wanted to know if you’d be down?

For anyone who plans events - you all know the fear…

So if you’re in Toronto, free on January 26th, and fancy kicking off your year with some in-person, self-discovery - reply to this email with the two words ‘I’m in’.

Here’s to entering 2025 focused on growth and gratitude for this version of you 🌟

See you next year!
